Episode 33: Puma Third Kits 2021

The Kitbliss Podcast returns with a look at some of the most controversial football kit designs of the last few years.

Puma's latest offerings for some of its biggest partners have raised a few eyebrows, to say the least. With no club badge on show in the traditional manner and only a large rendition of the team name dominating the shirt, fans have been piling in to pour consternation on Puma's new look.

But are these new shirt designs really as bad as they seem? Don't most football fans want to see innovation and fresh ideas these days, and do modern players really have to kiss the badge to show their commitment to the cause?

On this episode, Chris and Jay examine the detail of the design and try to provide some much needed balance in their assessment.

Episode 32: The Most Average Football Kit of 2020

For this year's festive episode, the Kitbliss team are shying away from the frankly shambolic quiz format of previous years and instead embarking on an altogether more valid project. Yes, this year, we're trying to find out what is The Most Average Football Kit of 2020.

You've sent in your nominations and we've been looking at each of them, hoping to establish which kit has fulfilled its brief to be as average as it's possible to be.

Rich and Jay are on hand to provide comment and analysis, and in so doing pay their respects to two footballing greats, pass comment on the space between Uma Thurman's eyes and generally search for The Epitome of Average which, as we all know, is the Bond film title that surely someone would have thought of before now.

The question is, which kit has been crowned King of the Commonplace? There's only one way to find out, listeners. Download the pod, check out our crib sheet for visual assistance and enjoy...

Note:

During the podcast, it's mentioned that Gavin Haigh provided several of the kit nominations, which is incorrect. The correct name was in fact Gavin Hope. Apologies to Gavin Hope for the mistake and to all listeners for any confusion this may cause.

Episode 31: Le Coq Sportif

If there's one thing we've been meaning to do on The Kitbliss Podcast, it's focus on one kit manufacturer and assess their output throughout. Well, we've finally got round to doing just that as on this episode we look at the work of French sportswear supplier Le Coq Sportif.

Although no longer making kits for British club teams, they're still creating fine apparel for the likes of Saint Etienne, Fiorentina, Cameroon and South Africa. But how well does their contemporary work stand up to the LCS kits of the past, and what do we think of their overall standard of work, as seen over the last 50 years?

Joining me to contemplate such matters are Jay and Rich, who along the way stop off to ponder the use of drop shadows in modern kit design, the influence of Benny Hill on Robbie Williams and the inability of old people to understand what makes young people tick.

As ever we end with some Kit News, and as ever there's a crib sheet to provide you with more visual cues than any person could ever possibly want. You can download it here, should you need it.

Episode 30: Goalkeeper Kits

Goalkeepers. They're a merry bunch of 'characters,' aren't they? Well you'd think so, judging by some of the brightly coloured kits they've worn down the years. But it wasn't always like that...

On this episode, Rich, Jay and I take a look at the history of goalkeeper kit design and wonder whether it's all actually been in vain. Two of us are somewhat apathetic about the notion of 'special kits for goalkeepers' and the other is still undecided. So why are goalkeeper kits such an important part of every new kit launch these days?

As we try to work out just how much we like goalkeeper kits, Rich crowbars in as many long-forgotten 80's pop culture references as possible (again), Jay contemplates the inner peace that comes from maintaining a zen garden, while I do the decent thing and read out your feedback and lots of Kit News. Hey, it's what I do.

A crib sheet, I hear you cry? Why of course - it's here. Enjoy...
